Should I buy Pepsi or Coca-Cola stock?
Outlook and prices. Pepsi is the cheaper stock, but investors might still prefer paying the premium for co*ke over its less expensive rival. Sure, you can own Pepsi for 2.5 times sales, or less than half of co*ke's price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of 5.6. You'll get roughly the same 3% dividend yield in either case.
PepsiCo has 15.78% upside potential, based on the analysts' average price target. PepsiCo has a conensus rating of Moderate Buy which is based on 10 buy ratings, 7 hold ratings and 0 sell ratings. The average price target for PepsiCo is $190.65.
Fair Value Estimate for Coca-Cola
With its 3-star rating, we believe co*ke's stock is fairly valued compared with our long-term fair value estimate, which we maintain at $60 per share.
Both companies remain solid in their financial performance, but Coca-Cola is leading in profitability margins and liquidity, while PepsiCo has had faster near-term growth.
Pepsi contains citric acid, while co*ke does not. Pepsi also has slightly more sugar, calories, and caffeine while co*ke has a tiny edge in sodium. With ingredients that match so closely, neither has an edge as being any healthier than the other. co*ke has had a slight edge over Pepsi from the beginning.
The financial health and growth prospects of PEP, demonstrate its potential to perform inline with the market. It currently has a Growth Score of A. Recent price changes and earnings estimate revisions indicate this would be a good stock for momentum investors with a Momentum Score of A.
The good news is that Pepsi stock is reasonably priced considering all of these positive factors. Shares are valued at 2.5 times annual sales, or less than half of Coca-Cola's premium. On the downside, it is far less profitable, and its growth isn't quite as robust.
And yet, over the very long term, this top beverage stock has made for a solid investment. It's part of why Coca-Cola is the fourth-largest holding in the Warren Buffett-led Berkshire Hathaway's massive equities portfolio.
The long-term outlook is highly positive for co*ke's cash trends, and so investors can count on further steady dividend growth over the coming years (and decades).
Con: It's Expensive
While KO stock does have the size and brand recognition to command respect, the firm's most recent performance and expectations for the future don't justify its current price tag. KO's price-earnings ratio is a staggering 42.4.
Why Pepsi is a better investment than co*ke?
When looking at stock performance PepsiCo has outperformed Coca-Cola in every time frame. Looking back 10, 20, 30 years, Pepsi comes out on top. Even more impressive is that PepsiCo has done it with less risk and volatility as its maximum drawdown since 1985 was -36%, while Coca-Cola's was -50%.
Pepsi is approximately 5% sweeter than Coca-Cola. That's why Pepsi tends to win the head-to-head taste-offs like the famous “Pepsi Challenge.” When offered a sip, people choose the sweeter drink. But when choosing a drink to enjoy with a meal or a snack, a majority of people choose Coca-Cola.
The S&P 500 has posted a 24% total return in the past year, but PepsiCo stock is slightly down as investors worry about declining volumes and the effects of weight-loss drugs on future customer demand.
In the blind taste test, the difference in percentage of participants who preferred co*ke over Pepsi decreased (Figure 1b). Forty-six percent preferred the taste of co*ke and 39% preferred the taste of Pepsi. About 15% of the participants showed no preference in the taste test.
Sorry, there isn't a “healthiest” soda when it comes to the traditional soft drink. Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Sprite, Mountain Dew – whatever your preference, a similar-sized soda will have around the same sugar and caffeine content.
Pepsi is a carbonated soft drink with a cola flavor, manufactured by PepsiCo.
Key Points. PepsiCo is a gigantic global snack and beverage maker. The company has been performing fairly well, despite rising costs and higher interest rates. Given the long-term strength of the company, the stock looks reasonably attractive today.
Overall, Pepsi has been consistently profitable over the years, making it one of the more secure stocks to invest in.
The stock's last reported lowest price was 162.5. PepsiCo has less than a 10 % chance of experiencing some financial distress in the next two years of operation, but has generated negative returns over the last 90 days. Equity ratings for PepsiCo are calculated daily based on our scoring framework.

What will Pepsi stock be worth in 5 years?
PepsiCo Inc quote is equal to 164.680 USD at 2024-03-18. Based on our forecasts, a long-term increase is expected, the "PEP" stock price prognosis for 2029-03-14 is 228.196 USD. With a 5-year investment, the revenue is expected to be around +38.57%. Your current $100 investment may be up to $138.57 in 2029.
PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP) stands strong with its impressive dividend track record, and a dividend yield of 3.1% at the time of writing. PEP projects 4% organic revenue growth for the full year 2024 and at least 8% core constant currency earnings per share (EPS) growth for 2024.
If you invested in the company 10 years ago, that decision could have paid off. According to CNBC calculations, a $1,000 investment in Coca-Cola in 2009 would be worth more than $2,800 as of Feb. 15, 2019.
co*ke is projecting organic sales growth of between 6% and 7% (compared to Pepsi's 4%) for 2024. The company is also expecting earnings gains to outpace revenue growth, likely keeping co*ke's profit margin close to its current impressive rate of nearly 30% of sales.
Is Coca-Cola stock a Buy, Sell or Hold? Coca-Cola stock has received a consensus rating of buy. The average rating score is A1 and is based on 37 buy ratings, 9 hold ratings, and 0 sell ratings.
